Fire Ants are red - naturally - and measure about 1/4 inch long. These aggressive pests reside in mounds that can reach about two feet wide and 1.5 feet tall. Colonies usually include up to 250,000 workers. If intruded upon or provoked, Fire Ants will sting repeatedly - a painful sting that has been known to kill young wildlife. Fire Ants aren't too picky when it comes to diet, eating plants as well as meats and greasy, sweet foods. Queens can live up to 6 years, with workers only surviving for up to 180 days. Fire Ants progress from egg to adult in about one month. Halt Bugology Factoid
