Anobiid Powderpost Beetles, as other beetles, feed on hard and soft
woods in their larval stage. Anobiid larvae will bore tunnels and live
inside the wood, which is usually older than 10 years. Anobiid Powderpost
Beetles will create hole that measure 1/16 to 1/8 inch in diameter,
and usually can be found in structural timbers. The greatest potential
for damage is in the early stage of infestation, while the larvae are
actively feeding.
Female Anobiid Powderpost Beetles typically lay about 50 eggs, and
the lifecycle ranges from 2 to 3 years, with the majority of that time
spent as larvae. Adult Anobiids are dark brown in color and measure
1/8 to 1/4 inch long, and range in shape from streamlined to oval.

Unlike Lyctids, Anobiids reduce wood to pellets instead
of a fine powder. (Factoid Source: J. DeAngelis, Extension Entomologist,
