Another scavenger cockroach is the German Cockroach, which enjoys virtually
anything for a meal. These nocturnal cockroaches seek out shelter that
is close to food, warmth and moisture. The German Cockroach is typically
found in apartments, supermarkets, dining establishments and, yes, homes;
and heavy infestations are very common.
Measuring roughly 5/8 of an inch, German Cockroaches are light to medium
brown and sport two long dark streaks on their thorax. Adults will live
up to one year. Females lay one egg capsule each 20-25 days, with up
to 48 eggs in each capsule. Nymphs will mature into adults in as little
as 36 days.
