Unlike other crickets, the Camel Cricket does not chirp. It will eat
anything, as well as clothes and lace curtains, and are normally found
in damp areas such as crawl spaces and basements, attics, and under
logs and stones.
The Camel Cricket's color ranges from tan to dark brown and they measure
from 1/2 to 1.5 inches long. They get their name from their humped back.
Camel Crickets will become immobile in the presence of strong light.
Camel Crickets lay their eggs each spring, producing one generation
each year, that hatches around April.
Halt Bugology Factoid
The Camel Cricket's distinctive limbs and antennae serve
a double purpose. Typically living in a lightless environment, or active
at night, they rely heavily on their sense of touch, which is limited
by reach. While they have been known to take up residence in the basements
of buildings, many cave crickets live out their entire lives deep inside
actual caves. In those habitats they sometimes face long spans of time
with insufficient access to nutrients. To avoid starvation, they have
been known to devour their own extremities, even though they cannot
regenerate limbs. (Factoid Source: wikipedia)
