Primarily nocturnal flyers, Indian Meal Moths have a wingspan of
about 5/8 of an inch, pale gray in color with the outer portion of
the forewing showing a red-brown. In their larval stage, Indian Meal
Moths measure about 1/2 inch, are dirty white, and feed mailing on
grains, flours and fruits.
Females lay up to 400 eggs each spring, with the lifecycle ranging
from 4 to 6 weeks and adults lasting only one or two weeks. Indian
Meal Moths are often mistaken for Clothes
Moths. The Indian Meal Moth
larvae spin white, silken cocoons where they pupate, occasionally
leaving the webbing behind.
