Most all species in the Bee family have yellow and black coloring with
hairy bodies and range in size from 7/16 to 5/8 inches long. Bees feed
on nectar and pollen and live in colonies as large as 80,000, and will
avoid humans unless provoked. If they do attack, Bees will sting, which
can be painful, but harmless - unless the victim is allergic to Bees.
There is only one queen to a hive, who lays all of the eggs, and she
can live up to 5 years producing up to 2,000 eggs per day. Worker females
protect eggs and the young, while the drones' only job is to mate with
the queen, after which they die.
